CRUSH YOUR ENEMY TOTALLY
All great leaders since Moses have known that a feared enemy must be crushed completely. (Sometimes they have learned this the hard way.) If one ember is left alight, no matter how dimly it smolders, a fire will eventually break out. More is lost through stopping halfway than through total annihilation: The enemy will recover, and will seek revenge. Crush him, not only in body but in spirit.
The basic idea behind this law is that, when you have enemies, it's better to completely destroy them rather than leave them with the ability to come back and seek revenge.
According to the author, Robert Greene, allowing an enemy to survive, even in a weakened state, can be dangerous, because they may regroup and plot against you. The only way to truly protect yourself is to ensure that your enemy is completely defeated and has no means to strike back.
Greene advises that you should go after your enemy's reputation, resources, and relationships in order to ensure their defeat. You should also avoid giving them any opportunity to rebuild, by destroying any remnants of their power and influence.
While this law may seem harsh, Greene argues that it is necessary for survival in a world where power is constantly being contested. If you don't crush your enemies, they may eventually crush you.
However, it's worth noting that there are ethical considerations to be taken into account when applying this law. Blindly following it without considering the consequences can lead to unnecessary harm and conflict. It's important to balance the need for self-protection with a sense of fairness and justice.
