LAW 6
COURT ATTENTION AT ALL COST
Everything is judged by its appearance; what is unseen counts for nothing. Never let yourself get lost in the crowd, then, or buried in oblivion. Stand out. Be conspicuous, at all cost. Make yourself magnet of attention by appearing larger, more colorful more mysterious than the bland and timid masses.
In this chapter, Greene emphasizes the importance of being noticed and standing out from the crowd in order to gain power and influence.
Greene advises that in order to court attention, one must first understand the nature of their audience and what will appeal to them. This involves studying the tastes, values, and desires of those one wishes to impress or influence.
Once one has identified what will attract attention, Greene suggests using dramatic gestures, symbols, and images to make oneself stand out. He also advises using words that are simple, direct, and forceful in order to grab the attention of one's audience.
However, Greene also warns that courting attention can be risky, as it can make one a target for criticism and envy. Therefore, he suggests carefully balancing the desire for attention with the need for discretion and the ability to read social cues and adjust one's behavior accordingly.
Overall, Greene argues that those who can successfully court attention are often able to gain power and influence over others, but this requires careful planning, strategy, and an understanding of human nature.
